I think I need to put the dowel in a drill motor and try it. I tried doing it by hand, and I'm not pleased with the results. I sprayed it with four coats of gloss white from a spray can and then sprayed it with Minwax clear gloss polyurethane. The tail surfaces are covered with card stock, then coated with Future Floor wax, and sprayed with airbrush and Rust-Oleum Apple red. The stripe was hand painted with the same apple red. The silver was a cheap enamel spray can, I'm not happy with it, I'll get some better silver spray soon.
