Seems I read somewhere that when the power was turned completely off on this aircraft all horizontal control surfaces dropped. heywooood 14-Jun-17 20:48 like the Mustang they built - the main doors would eventually drop down once the hydraulic pressure dissipated in the system after shutdown...so yes the slats which were not hydraulic or electric - they just clanked out at low airspeed, the flaps the main doors, and the speed brake - all dropped. However - I think for this model I am going to stop with the canopy, slats and flaps..I have reached my limit I think for one airplane. In it, the F-100 was described in first-hand narrative including the (in)famous Sabre Dance. North American used the same system to control the gear doors on every aircraft. Sometimes the bleed off happened faster dependent on wear and other factors but no set of pumps and lines was perfect. I can imagine a museum or display example having these items sealed or secured for any number of reasons, the aircraft being essentially in 'dry storage' - can't have them bleeding fluids all over those nice, polished floors.
