Image Comments SteveM 14-Nov-08 14:49 I was operating well within the limits of a quality brand ESC so I was a little disappointed that it failed. My first thought was that I had overloaded the BEC, but it looks to me like at least one of these motor FETs got very hot. hjlittman 14-Nov-08 19:11 OK, Now I see. When this fried it shut down the motor and the controls too. SteveM 14-Nov-08 19:36 The only reason I would lose controls is if the BEC shut down, powering off the radio. When I got to the crash site the ESC had cooled and the controls were working again. My guess is the middle FET shown here caused a heating of the ESC which caused a thermal shutdown of the linear regulator that powers the radio. Rather than wait ~4 weeks for warranty repair I am considering just replacing the FET and seeing if that fixes it, but at the same time I'd hate to have it die again.
