The insignia is from a Guillows P-38 with the red stripes added from other decal material. All else is paint. I'm not using any of the kit decals because they have yellowed.

I read in a plastic magazine, that to remove the yellowed tint from the decals, simply lay out the decal sheet near a window and let the sun shine on top of the decals. Or tape the decal sheet to the window facing the sun. After a while (I think a few hours or more) the sun will bleach out the yellowing and the decals should be as good as new.

I seriously doubt that exposing a 50+ year old decal which is already bone dry to the Arizona sun would make it good as new.

Decals in kits this old not only yellow but dry out to the point that they can literally become dust. They also develop tiny cracks so that when the decal is put in water it disintegrates into a puzzle with many pieces. I never use the decals in an old kit. Even those in the B-29, about 20 or so years old, can and will crack. I suppose they could be sprayed with clear but the damage has already been done and a band-aid might not be sufficient.

You're probably right on that score. Didn't know that the kit was that old. Sorry about that. At least there are some techniques out there to help salvage some of the things in older kits.

If the canopy is in good shape I can handle the rest.
