I decided to model this pose using some Tamiya figures and a lot of putty. |

Yesterday a childhood hero died, Wallace (Bill Thompson). |

Thanks for indulging my photo dump. I hope you like it. |

One more shot of the missiles. The noses are clear plastic dimples cut from goggly-eyes. The real missiles have cameras in their noses. |

I cut two parallel lines the width of the plastic, and the diameter of the inner circle in the plastic. I notched between the two lines and press-fit the "propellor" onto the cone. Again, it is removable for transport. The tailbone was then attached to the fuselage using a butterfly clip. |

Using Ted's tail cone, I had a another friend cut out a 12"+ diameter piece of clear plastic. I painted the prop to look like it was spinning. I probably should be a bit more subtle, but with the yellow warning strips, it came out pretty effective. |

The aileron linkage pieces can be seen in this photo. |

Attached to the plane. The keyhole attachment is very solid, yet easy to remove for transport. You can see the footballs and antenna in place as well. |

Parts are coming together. I attached the hard point body to the wing using screws. I cut keyhole slots in the wings, insert the screw heads and slid them back. Worked out great. Very solid attachment. |

Cardstock fins. I drilled holes for small dowels to peg into the missile rails for better security. |

Making missiles. The bodies came from Ted. |

My tailbone is taped in place, in anticipation of finishing Ted's tail cone. |

The foam tailbone, primed and painted. It is surprisingly sturdy now. I may have to try this with a fuselage sometime. |

Hanging at the museum. Maybe I should change the category from "Parked" to "Flying". |

The museum was getting anxious so I got it prepped to hang without some of the hardware. Ted was helping me by turning some bombs on his lathe. |

I apologize for hogging the site, but I'm cleaning files and getting ready for a new build. James, could you add an ARF F-16 to the list? Thanks. |

No room on the couch (davenport) to sit down. You can bet I did not walk through the house with it assembled. I could barely handle the 3' wingspan of the Piper Cub without hitting something. Good thing I'm not a pilot. |

The parts of the plane under several layers of Bondo, primer and final paint. |

Great stuff for adhering clear parts. I think it is the same stuff that watchmakers use to attach crystals. I bought it at a hobby store. |

The basic structure is from the model. I cut out the small windows and filled them with clear plastic, probably from some of those packages that are impossible to open without a nuclear device. I made the reflector from mirror paper from the art store. It took a while to figure out the shape, but it seems to look ok. The base is from that PVC box I cut apart. The slots slide over the wooden frame in the fuselage. |
