I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

And next is the Intake manifold. All sorts of layout lines to double-check my geometery.

I've started on the ignition harnesses. Various gauges of copper wire soldered together.

Actually it is very close to 1/72 scale. That was the common scale for these models, made by Cruver, during WW2. BTW, that was a great price you paid. They tend to go for over $50 on eBay.

Not to bad of fit. I will need to fill in between the cylinder bases and round a few edges off to make it look like a metal casting.
rayl, Image # 3719520 Nov 16 11:43

Conviently, the crankcase was the same radius as one of my sanding drums.
rayl, Image # 3719420 Nov 16 11:41

@nd attepmt at the crankcase. After laying all the sectors out, I made the cylinder bases by slicing them off on my lathe after using the drum sander to match the radius of tht crankcase.

First attempt at making the crankcase: Not happy. I'm not good at carving.

LWM: I'll be looking fwd to seeing your C-2C, I have developed quite a "soft-spot" for Loaning's over the last year. John: No disc dream yet, but having nightmares about how to make the cylinder heads!!

Do you see disks in your dreams as yet? When making cylinders for "Ogre" I certainly did. Nice job!

Hey Rayl - I've been watching your immaculate OL-8 build for a long time - you made me go out and buy the Loening C-2C "Air Yacht" plans from Cleveland --- 1:16 scale, 35" wingspan, $22.00 U.S. It really is such a cool looking plane!

A lathe! Why didn't I think of that? When I was scratch building the Le Rhone 9 cylinder 80 HP engine for my Nieuport 11 I got frustrated trying to punch holes in the exact center of discs I had already punched out of plastic sheets. It looked terrible when assembled. Opted for metal washers which looked better but weighed a ton. The lathe is a great idea.

31 of the 37 panes. Had a siege of Bursitis so had to give it up for the year. It's hell getting old!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmm. Windows all done?
rayl, Image # 3718919 Nov 16 10:53

All nine cylinders done. I think that this going to get complicated before it's over. I had purchased a Williams Bros. 1/12 scale radial, but it just looked to big hanging out there, even though the OL-8 is aprox 1/14 scale.
rayl, Image # 3718819 Nov 16 10:49

Sorry about the spelling on the last post. This are (is)? the assembly of the aforementioned discs into the cylinder for the Wasp Radial on the front of the OL-8.

Well, we had our first taste od snow yesterday, so building season is officially open, These are about a zillion 0,010 plastic discs of diffenerent sizes that I have turned down on my little lathe.

Bottom side shows that it is a P-38 and has a 1942 date molded into it. Always heard of these critters but have never seen one before. Another "treasure" for my daughter to unload when I'm on the wrong side of the turf.

Picked up this cute little WWII molded rubber ID model at a Flea Market for $2.00. It has a wingspan of 8 1/2", which makes it roughly 1/144 scale.

Rayl, wondered what happened and where you've been. You're missed around here. Hope to hear from you.... "...Once in a lullaby."
