I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

Thanks Sky. All you have to do is Google the "N" number of the A/C in question and there will be several options to give you the info on that particular plane.

Rayl, just found your picture of the Beaver you sent to Don C. How did you managed to track that particular plane? You have your own reference library? Just curious and impressed!

Excellent! I'm really excited to follow your build. You've managed to come up with some ingenious ways of tackling difficult tasks. Looks like you've got this down.

There are about 15 rib blanks clamped in the patterns. The red edge, applied with a sharpy, is a warning stripe to let me know if I have gone to far. I roughed the shape out with my drum sander then used a fairing board to refine the ribs. The notches were roughed out with a razor saw then refined with a small bastard file.

About 1/3 of teh rib blanks in waiting.

With about 80 full size ribs to cut out of 1/16" sheet, Imade a jig out of 1/8" lite-ply to insure consistent results. There are two 6-32 stove-bolts to clamp the rib blanks between the patterns. The thingy to the left is a piece of 1/8" O.D. brass tube with the inside sharpened with a countersink which should make some nice holes in the rib blanks using the pattern jig in front.

The whole model at this point looks absolutely great!

Ooops. Sorry. If the gears are fixed, then I would imagine its just a matter of matching up the geometry of the wheel wells and the outlines of the drawings/photos of the aircraft.

Beautiful work! I looked this up on the internet, it was a strange bird.
rayl, Comment for image # 3538117 Jan 16 15:23
Lordy NO! It's going to be hard enough to get the geometry right for static gear.

Assenblage of parts waiting to be doped and tissue applied. IT was (-)22 deg. F. overnight and is going to get up to (-) 8 deg. today: the dopeing can wait. Besides I have to get ready to watch the Steelers wump the Broncos.

One of two wingfloats. 3 coats of nitrate dope.

Are you intending to have the landing gear functional?

DD, had to smile at your response to my not knowing about the strakes on the bottom. The Loening wasn't the only aircraft that I was taking detailed photographs. "Only" had two full days to take as many detailed pictures as possible of as many aircraft that were on display at the US Air Force Museum. There were some interior pictures also taken of this Loening while the docent was looking the other way.... :) So it was a matter or choice of whether I had the time/chance of taking interior shots or undersides of the floats. During the rush of photography, I must admit it never really occurred to me to consider the underside in the first place. Guess can't win 'em all... Sky

Wet forming the turtle-deck out of 1/16 balsa. I'm trying to keep going without having to tackle the L/G.

Stabeliser ready to cover. Bulit it one piece to sumplify getting the "ribs" all going in the same direction. Went through a bit of angst yesterday when my plans didn't correlate to the William Nye drawing I was using to fine tune the construction. IT turns out that I was having a brain fart trying to get things to the scale.

Another one for DD.

For DD.

Gary, skyediamonds, said he took "lotsa photos " of the real plane but that he had "no idea" about the strakes on the bottom of the float so I said he should have photographed the bottom.Since this is a photo of the bottom that you, Ray, took, I figured you would realize the comment was directed at the person who made the other comment.
