Pains me to say this Ray, but yours is bigger - and very nice. I am at the point where I need to build in the retractable wheels.

??? It is the bottom of the float.

Should have photographed the bottom.

Thank you for the insight about the underside of the Loening float. Had no idea. Great job! -Sky

Boat-tail and strakes on the hull bottom. Still need to apply the sheer-strakes, then on to the L/G (Ugh). Be back next week.

FAired, sanded, doped, covered with silkspan and doped again.

Amazing! Can see how an issue as a wheel well can hold up the entire project. Looking at how fast you've moved. I've been there myself. In fact, I'm in that same position right now with the S.E. 5. You've come a long way. Really excited....:) -Sky

BTW: what you see weighs in at 5 1/4 oz.
rayl, Comment for image # 3529606 Jan 16 23:13
Don: It's about 23" long with a 5" beam. I should weigh it because it feels quite heavy. The original plan, which is at 1/12 scale called for a .10 cu. in. engine which would be quite underpowered for a C/L model.

That really worked out well. What is the size of this thing?

Wow!!!!

A look at the Port side of the float with some planking left to do yet. I've been using Cyno exclusivel on this assembly just to speed the build time up.
rayl, Image # 3529606 Jan 16 15:31

Planking applied to the Stbd. side of the float and the high spots sanded off with a fairing board. Much work to do yet.

Can't stop smiling! I feel like I'm right there with you relishing the enjoyment of your success. This is incredible! May I ask if you would mind duplicating those plastic wells? What is your scale? My email is: Skyediamonds1985@yahoo.com

Rayl, first off, just wanted to say that I admire your willingness to tackle such an unusual and challenging project. Not many modelers out there in your league. I've been quietly following your posts and it looks as though you've mastered the wheel well very nicely. I too, hope to build a Loening amphibian ( the OA-1A version, the one pictured here on your post). When I was visiting the Museum of the US Air Force, took lotsa pictures of this unique biplane myself so we're on the same page. It looks as though you've done masterful job.!! I sincerely wish you good luck and I'll continue to follow your progress. -Sky
