If I was still a building fool, a Dornier Do-217 would be in my arsenal only made by Sigs. Something about WWII night fighters....

It's a shame SIG no longer makes these kits which were, in fact, Berkeley kits with a different brand name attached.

This is on the second floor level and there's a huge space in front of this model where they will hang the Piper Cub when finished.

Bill, probably. There are many photos of f9f Panthers with wings folded, carrying 500lb bombs. Great looking aircraft.

If those were real bombs, would the hydrolics really be able to fold the wings?

This is from Wikipedia.

Nice Skyraider, David. Is this your photo? When and where?
David Duckett, Comment for image # 1964515 Oct 10 16:55
There were a few around LS 85 after the attack by the NVA.

And the guys who survived "rolling thunder", I believe have a lot of respect for the "Sandy's" and "Jolly Greens" and their pilots and crews who plucked them out of a tight spot.

Planking means using strips glued on to the formers, as shown, to cover the fuselage, and then sanding it smooth. I think this was a fairly common technique when this kit was made in the '50s.

From my hangar. The wing of this Bearcat is designed to be sheeted. For the wing of a Guillows kit to be sheeted properly, all the ribs would need to have 1/16", in this case, removed from the top and bottom to accomodate the sheeting and maintain the integrity of the design.

This was also highly influenced by the FW 190.

I love working with balsa. Everytime I add something and actually get it right, I have to sit back and gaze at it for a while. By the way, the Bearcat finished looks fantastic!

Just for grins, Poppy, this is a planked and sheeted Bearcat which I covered with silkspan. Your Hellcat brings to mind just how much work is involved in making one of these totally covered with balsa, and how much fun it is.

Yup! It's the plastic hub from the Corsair and the blades are 3/32 balsa.

Wow, the prop looks really scale. Did you make that yourself?

Ready to join the crowded skies

Finally, the prop...
