Rigging: this is the ideal RAFer flat wire rigging we've all been waiting for. We have two basic sizes: .4mm and .8 mm, in my opinion, the .8mm is the best choice for our biplane models for those who wish to go the extra distance in detailing. They're very flexible, have already been annealed and very easy to cut and stretch. No stress imposed on the stick-n-tissue types.

I ordered the 50' roll and got the 100' roll instead. Good deal

This is a new larger sized Vape strip at .8mm. This is by far what I feel will be very compatible with our scaled biplanes at between 1 1/12th -1 1/4th. The one on the left is .8mm and the one on the right is .4mm that I originally posted.

Thin styrene strips colored with a silver magic marker work well. That's what I used on my Stearman after Don recommended it.

That is cool. I've been looking for flat monofilament, which is out there, but rare, and thought maybe soaking dental floss with super glue would do the trick. I think you have the solution.

That was a long time ago, DD, but sometimes it seems like yesterday. :)

My comment is a paraphrase of Alice's Restaurant, a song by Arlo Guthrie. Don's is a line from the song.

Guys: Just ordered a 50' roll of .8mm sized Vape strips from Amazon. They also have .5mm strips, but that's too close to the original .4mm strips that I previously ordered that you see posted on here and previous photos. So, the next sized Vape strips were /8mm, so I went with it. I'll keep everyone posted.

Who's Alice? Alice Cooper?

Excepting Alice.

Heywoood: That's great news! Glad to hear of your intentions to purchase it. Insofar as the twisting of the flat wire, they solved that issue with the use of long poles mounted on the wires at the intersection between the flying and landing wires. Incidentally, thanks to Hueyv77, that pole is called "Javelin." Right now, I'm "stuck" with the Mustang, but I fully intend to build a model that uses flat wire (any model will do, just so I can use it). Good news: They also come in different sizes. I intend to order up some slightly larger sizes as well as coming in only 50' rolls instead of 100.' DD, thank you! Never thought much of all that hoopla about Amazon. Now I can understand! Duh.....

it looks promising but my concern would be in keeping it aligned with the airflow - keeping it from twisting etc..without the fittings used on the prototype aircraft to prevent that from happening while drawing them tight and securing them. I suppose working out a method is possible. Hmmm why do folks always find tricky new stuff just when I think I already have an issue solved. This is a terrific find - wish I had known about this wire before I built those race planes lol. I was planning on using a silver mono-filament thread but I'm going to buy a roll of this and see what's what.

As you can see, it's comparable to my efforts of slicing thin pieces of paper used for rigging on my PT-17. Although not easily seen here, it's about 1/3 to 1/4th the size of my rigging. Really nice and comes in 50' and 100' rolls. I got the 100' roll from Amazon for $8.50 plus free shipping.

As you can see, it's very thin to scale. It's made of shiny metal and really easy to use.

This might help solve our quest for that elusive flat RAFer rigging. I've just ordered this stuff that is used for those who Vape. it can be purchased through Amazon

this is such an amazing model - the louvers on the radiator just knock me out every time. Sky - I need to know where you came by all those fittings on your rigging. I want to do something similar on my upcoming Stearman. The covering too..in fact - I'd like you to just go ahead and build my Stearman for me because I don't think I can come close to this level of detail if I live another hundred years

Skye. A wonderful rendition. Fit for a glass case in a museum. Bravo!
