The turkeys around here are very elusive. In seven years now, I have only once seen this one, on April 5 2019, pecking around in the Sunken Flower Garden perimeter inside Jackson Park. He definitely came in from the Railway tracks. Pic # 2023 Richard

A new visitor this Spring to Jackson Park.

The edge of the big rail spur, with their wide and deep frog ditches full of water, goes right parallel to the left of this hydro line, and to the right is a big wet bush swamp of Buckthorn trees, and Oaks and Poplars. Right along these traacks in the pic, going to the rail spur, I saw 14 BIG turkeys all in a row running along the far side of this set of tracks, last year. Richard

The turkeys are just to the right of the hydro pole.

Hi Sciggs. Thanks for the nice comment. I really like the Dumas range of kits also. They brag about their "ease of construction", and for very good reason, in my humble opinion. And they keep adding new models all the time. And the "Peel n Stick" decals are so easy to apply, (and do not disintegrate) ... and are very light and thin. The box art on the Speedster kit box, is just a very good pic of the fully assembled model as per plan with decals added - and for those of us who like kits in boxes, Dumas does just that. The nose wheel pants and struts were all wood stained "Golden Oak" color. I really had a lot of fun flying, crashing, repairing and flying again this summer. All trimmed out, I could get standard 15 second flights on this 30" Rearwin Speedster, my favorite plane to hand launch, and fly Rubber Powered Free Flight. Richard

I really like Dumas kits, too bad they are not as popular as Guillows. I think their price and lack of availability at local hobby stores could be the issue.....and lack of cool box art. Any way great build and flight pictures, did you cover the balsa nose, wheel pants and struts?

Hi Bob. Thanks. I really obsessed on flying this Jumbo 30" Rearwin Speedster since April 8 2018, and all summer and fall, after I took it down from sitting on the shelf for three years. It flew right off of the building board and right out of the box, after only adding clay to the nose to balance the plane at the Center of Gravity CG marked on the plan. I kept flight log reports, crashes and repairs on the sister site, Hip Pocket Aeronautics, here http://www.hippocketaeronautics.com/hpa_forum/index.php?topic=23134.0 I just get my kicks from being a small park flyer, and it was very rewarding to get actual 30 second flights of low tight circles, all within the tree trunk-lined confines, of the Cricket grounds. It is getting pretty cold now and it could be the end of the flying season. Richard

Nice rubber flying shot there Lastwoodsman - takes me back to the fifties! I did not have a great deal of success with rubber jobs - well done you.

These could be the last flight pics, as they have mowed the grass really low now, and the cold weather is now here - in the 30s and 40s Fahrenheit.

And a nice underside shot.

This is the best fall color pic of the Speedster climbing out high.
