I'm proud to report that my Sherman tank took 2nd place in its category (scratch-built/conversions) at the Modelzona 2014 IPMS modeling contest over the past weekend. Lots of great models there. Mine were the only wood models, which drew some attention to them. I also entered the Bofors 40mm and my Wallace/Model A figure. Now I can tell the ladies I am an award-winning male model(er).

I am a board member of the Arizona Military Museum. We have started interviewing veterans. One of them was a radio operator/gunner on B-24s. He trained in Yuma. One of the items he donated was this decal sheet. Pretty cool stuff.

A German halftrack. Between it and the Hetzer you can see the top of a Kubelwagen, a VW version of the Jeep. It was reissued as the "Thing" in the mid 70s.

The bad guys were there as well. This is a German Hetzer with a 75mm cannon.

Yeah, I should get to clean that thing again. But then it just gets messy all over. Just like my desk at work.

Looks like another busy work bench.

Phil, a really impressive model. Finally something to compete with the old Monogram kit (which is still a pretty nice model, especially for its age).

Now that's cool! The only reason I knew it was a Weasel is that my co-worker Adam Kuller recently completed a resin scale model/diorama of the M29. He is just about to complete his M29C! His "Builds" are astonishing and insane. There is quite a bit of nice reference (actual photo's) if you're interested. Here are links to his M29 build http://www.militarymodelling.com/forums/postings.asp?th=51188&p=1 and this is his M29C http://www.militarymodelling.com/forums/postings.asp?th=55613 . 1/35 scale!

You are correct Mr. Finn. I am a board member at the Arizona Military Museum. They had this sitting in a yard, along with an M7B1 Priest, M42 Duster, some Russian tanks and APCs. So I volunteered (I was never in the military as you vets might have guessed) to restore it. It is actually an M29C, which typically had the floatation tanks on the front and rear. You can see the attachment bolts at the front and back of the Weasel. I'm planning on a year and half restoration. We'll see.

M29 Weasel

Unfortunately there is enough rust that I don't think it will hold water. Not even with all of Patton's cursing.

General Patton's bath tub?

This is my next long term project. Any guesses as to what it is?
Creosotewind, Comment for image # 2422229 Nov 11 13:54
The project is mainly reattaching parts like the propeller blades, where the old glue crumbled away. I had to make two blades and a new landing gear strut. Otherwise all the parts were there, just waiting to be glued. I don't know if this was a kit or just scratch built. It is one of the nicest built old models I've run across on eBay, however.

It came with the base to anchor the plane. On each side the model builder made small, finely written plaques describing the plane and the powerplants.

This must have fallen at one point and damaged the port side. Fortunately, the builder put these braces in the wing root so the plane was not too badly damaged.
