scigs30 | Comet Corsair | Build | 12-Jun-10 17:18 | | Views : 790 | Been real busy lately, but had a couple of free hours to begin covering. I am using the white domestic tissue that came with the kit. Since I built this per the plans I figure Esaki would warp this thing in all directions. I am also covering dry since the tissue is a little older, but wet would be a good option. I am using 50/50 Elmers/water to attach the tissue. After it was all said and done, everything came out nice and tight with no wrinkles or warps. Now I am off for a weeks vacation and I am heading out of town. When I come back I will apply 2 coats of dope and begin painting. The other day someone on EBay was selling Comet kits still wrapped in the shrink wrap for 10 -15 bucks each so I bought them. |

I will be busy the next few days but will get back to the build when I can. As you can see there are no modifications, pretty much built per the plans. I still have to do some final sanding and adding wood to the stab area. Comet is famous for making one wonder...where do I attach the tissue and motor peg:confused: Comet does not use vacuum formed parts, but they do a great job of providing parts and directions for the little details. I kept this build simple since I will only fly her a couple of times. For a more durable build, I would recommend replacing the paper parts with wood, sheeting the nose area, and strengthening the wing. The next step will be to cover with domestic tissue and paint the camo. Then off to the flying field. Once again, for how much these kits cost back in the 80s, not a bad deal. |
