To carry on the conversation that DD started: The engine structure here was wrapped with 1/16" SOFT balsa. I edge-glued sheets together with Cyno then sprayed it down with WIndex, wrapped it around a piece of PVC pipe about the right diameter and let it dry overnight, The sheeting was CYno'd to the structure and trimmed. The front fairing was tacked to the fuselage, sprayed with Windex, then held in place with painters tape until dry (X 2 to get the other side). IT may be just my imagination, but the Windex seems to have just enough Ammonia in it to really relax the wood grain. |

Detretuis from converting about 10 ft of 1/8" X 5/16" basswood to airfoil shaped strut material. Now I just have to figure out how to make the joints in the "N" struts. |

Another view of the saddles. Out of scrap balsa I built 4 different sanding blocks fair teh airfoil. If some ham-handed idiot wouldn't have crushed several ribs during the process, requiring replacments, I would hav been done much sooner. Now on to the strut & rigging attachment points. |

Spent most of the day sanding and strueing up the wings. Never done this before. My enigineering & woodworking background has proven the worth of "jigs" over the years. Here is one of teh wings supported by three saddles that allowed me to get the bottom of the leading & trailing edges truly flat and also make sure that the undercamber of the airfoil was consistent. |

Top wing done. The plans that I am working off of did not have ailerons, so had to extrapolate/interpolate/WAG them; think that I'm pretty close. The wing center section/dihederal brace took most of the day (when I wasn't shoveling snow). |
