SteveM | Molt Models Hellcat | Build | 16-Jan-10 23:36 | | Views : 11428 | After spending close to an hour struggling to cover a few square inches of the wing with Doculam (the stuff I used on the Tyro) I got demotivated and gave up as I have done on many previous occasions. Then I decided that having it covered in silkspan was better than not having it covered in Doculam so I got busy. As I was preparing to cover the last two spots of the fuselage it suddenly dawned on me that I was not using my medium grade silkspan, but had somehow grabbed a spare sheet of domestic tissue and was too dense to notice the difference for a few hours.What do you guys think, leave the tissue on or strip it off and redo with silkspan? |

The plane is made by Skyartec and FMA adds their Co-Pilot II system to it and sells it as a package. Since I got it for a review and didn't buy it I can still say I haven't purchased any ARF/RTF or foam planes. The red box is FMA's PowerLab 8, a 1000W, 8S, 30A multi-chemistry battery charger. I've been helping beta test it which has been a lot of fun but taken up a lot of my time in the evenings. |

It was blustery, but I managed to work my way through two battery packs and get in some touch and go practice. Of course when I come in for my final landing of the day a cross runway blast of wind did me in. |

It is the most recent plastic kit I have built to date and at the time was also my best build and paint job on a model, I was very proud of it. Interestingly, since my model is from the early 90's Revell intentionally left out the swastika on the tail, a decision they reversed in 1997. All the machine guns and other fine detail is snapped off so I think I should try to find a wooden kit to replace it with rather than another plastic one. |

They all flew fine and I only broke two of three props. I had the Aero-Star at full throttle and high rates doing rolls, loops, and Immelmann turns, then I came down for a touch and go but caught the prop on the runway and so much ice flew off I thought I had broken something (other than the prop). After I got home I changed the wheels on the Aero-Star and have almost 3/4" more ground clearance which should help with the prop breakage. |

AUW is 9.3 ounces and the CG is right where it should be with no need to shove the battery way up into the nose. The ESC was getting a little warm from just doing a little taxiing about the floor so I may cut open some holes for airflow. |

A few more hours and I should be ready to fly again. With the old motor I had to add nose weight which drove the weight to 9 oz, with the new motor AUW is about 9.3 ounces, but no nose weight is required and I don't think I'll have any troubles with a heavy tail. |

I was making a wide sweep with the Aero-Star to line up for a touch and go. I got a little too far away and suddenly realized that pole was between me and the plane so I hit the gas and grabbed elevator. |

The plane was finally air worthy so he go to learn on his own plane, but the controls were too sensitive so time was spent adjusting the linkages. Hopefully soon the plane will be dialed in. |
