I first sprayed with Aerogloss Cub yellow dope thinned 50/50 using my airbrush from the 80's. On Badgers website under "Garage sale" these are going for 5 bucks each :D For my plastic models I use an Aztec airbrush. The Badger 250 is easy to use and clean works great with harsh dope paint. As you can see not really scale for a Piper J3 but a nice vintage any way. I built it per the plans with no modifications and used everything in the kit. The weight with the heavy wheels is 69 grams, without heavy wheels 57 grams. The only other 1 1/4 wheels I have is wood Comet wheels bringing the weight to 64grams. Balanced with clay she weighs 83 grams with Sterling wheels and 78 grams with Comet wheels. I will probably use the Sterling wheels for the test glides tomorrow. The kit decals were old so I sprayed with a coat of Testors Gloss Cote before using. All and all the decals went on pretty smooth for being older decals. I still have a large stash of old kits, don't really want to sell them so I should just keep building. Originally I thought I would build these old kits for electric RC or freeflight, but that would take too much work and I will never get through my stash. I am not a collector, just like building and my hope is to build them all someday. |
