hjlittman | HJL Models P-36 Hawk | Parked | 17-Nov-21 20:15 | | Views : 493 | There is another NoCal on the horizon, a Giant Scale Bristol Beaufighter. The one in the picture is the first prototype. It was built with 1/16 stock like my smaller one. It would fly but warped with a warm breath. I built the next one with 3/32" stock. (Video) It's not that much heavier but much easier to handle and transport. The short flight in the video was so that Dave Gee could get a video of it. It's flying on a few hundred turns on single loops of 3/32" rubber. More winds would put it up at the ceiling. On 1/8" rubber, outdoors, it's a different animal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVY3ZEZ8gCc |
hjlittman | HJL Models P-36 Hawk | Parked | 24-Apr-21 01:48 | | Views : 606 | This is the P36/Hawk 75 nocal in the Vichy French skin. I assembled this one for the Round Valley Dome Indoor Contest but decided to fly the Brewster Buffalo instead. |
hjlittman | HJL Models Dewoitine D.520 | Build | 14-Sep-20 23:22 | | Views : 619 | The saga continues... |
hjlittman | HJL Models Dewoitine D.520 | Build | 14-Sep-20 23:20 | | Views : 565 | Put a coat of lightweight, white floral spray on it as primer to show up any damage or rough spots. Boy, did it! The dictum that "If a model sits on the bench without being worked on for any length of time it will acquire damage." was proven again. There were several small holes and tears in the covering that were not apparent in clear coat that need to be fixed. |

hjlittman | HJL Models Dewoitine D.520 | Build | 28-Apr-20 13:08 | | Views : 716 | This iteration will be flown to check the aerodynamics. There will be a few changes for the production version, some stringers will be repositioned and I have to make a new mold plug for the nose block since the countours of the first one ( last version) were slightly off. There are a few small corrections needed to the wing structure.to make it easier to build and strengthen the landing gear attachment for the static builders and those who cant resist and RC conversion. The vertical tail will also have a few detail changes. That's why you build prototypes. If this were a one off, just for me, I would be satisfied with it as is. |
hjlittman | HJL Models Dewoitine D.520 | Build | 28-Apr-20 12:56 | | Views : 609 | Fuselage needed a few corrections, changed some formers positions in the rear of the fuselage to remove a weak spot and move the rear peg forward |
hjlittman | HJL Models Dewoitine D.520 | Build | 28-Apr-20 12:51 | | Views : 648 | Drafting on a computer doesn't make up for what you forget. In the first drawings I forgot to add the side keel lock tabs. They're in the current version. |
hjlittman | HJL Models Dewoitine D.520 | Build | 28-Apr-20 12:48 | | Views : 634 | Since many modelers will cut a 24 X 36 plan into sections for convenience on thier building board I decided to print them that way. The plans in the 1:16 scale series will be printed on two 12 X 36 strips. |
