Creosotewind | ACE M-4 Sherman Tank | Parked | 21-Feb-11 12:01 | | Views : 691 | I'm back after a brief pause. Spent time in Kennesaw Georgia at the National Battlefield. Very interesting site and history. Anyways, I found a company Vectorcut (www.vectorcut.com) who makes laser cut nuts, tools, building, etc. They perfectly fit the bill for some of the details I needed for the Sherman. |

Most diesel tanks were shipped to our allies, but the Marines used them at Tarawa and Okinowa. This one will be a Marine tank. |

Creosotewind | ACE M-4 Sherman Tank | Parked | 20-Jan-11 13:46 | | Views : 695 | Detail of the driver's hatch showing the periscope, hinge and spring. The spring is thin wire wrapped around a pin. Each hatch has 8 parts in addition to white glue to create the "bump" to allow headroom for the driver. Materials are solder, basswood, card stock, dowells and wire. |

Creosotewind | ACE M-4 Sherman Tank | Parked | 20-Jan-11 13:39 | | Views : 661 | The front end. I had to reshape the transmission cover, as it wasn't round enough. I cut shapes out of card stock, glued on either side and filled with lightweight spackle. You can kind of see the original shape (wood) and the new shape (white). |
Creosotewind | ACE M-4 Sherman Tank | Parked | 20-Jan-11 13:37 | | Views : 718 | More Sherman details. These are the left and right final drives. Each is basswood, dowell and card stock. 8 pieces in each one. Should be substantial enough to handle the strain of the tracks. |
Creosotewind | ACE M-4 Sherman Tank | Parked | 30-Nov-10 09:13 | | Views : 706 | The driver's hatches each have a "bump" toward their backs, I think to allow the driver a bit more headroom. I replicated that again with many layers of white glue. |
Creosotewind | ACE M-4 Sherman Tank | Parked | 30-Nov-10 09:11 | | Views : 660 | I had drilled holes anticipating using furniture plugs for the armored fuel caps. Instead I went with the brads, so I had to fill the holes. The fuel caps include the metal brad, two short pieces of 1/16" dowel and two strips of paper. Once assembled, each cap was coated with white glue to blend all the parts, |
