pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 31-Oct-19 15:28 | | Views : 354 | Denmark still. Was able to fly the "Thermite" at the beach today. Built this years ago. It's somewhere here on VA squeezed into another build. |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 30-Oct-19 11:50 | | Views : 365 | Horizontal Stabilizer. Laminate, Notch, Fit rib blanks.... This wil be a "Full Flying" Stabilizer. The Sub-ribs will be trimmed to length after the ribs are notched for the 1/6" square spruce spars. I wil be curved to match the wing spar. The airfoil will be shaped free-hand after everything is bonded. |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 28-Oct-19 17:27 | | Views : 494 | Since this is still on the "Holiday" build thread... I was able to fly the actual "Holiday" from the original build hereon VA in Denmark. So this model was framed up in Maui 10 years ago, finished in California, and now has flown "Internationally"! It must have about 600+ flights on it. I just gave it a rebuild so it should go another few hundred. If the Wind and Radio gods allow it!! haha |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 27-Oct-19 11:54 | | Views : 398 | Brought some stuff to Denmark to build the tail feathers. I used a computer for the wing design predominantly to ensure the correct critical airfoil profile sizes so I could print them out accurately. But for the tail feathers I just draw them out freehand, cut paper outlines, set them on the floor and trim them until they "Look about right". |

pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 21-Oct-19 16:58 | | Views : 398 | My new work space in Germany. Up three flights of stairs and a fairly narrow Spiral staircase. I have my original "Holiday" model here as well as others that I posted here at VA so the Holiday will come to Denmark for my vacation. Well traveled model!! That's my 1949 NSU Quick Moped I'm restoring. Just replaced all the seals and bearings in the engine and it's ready to reassemble. Then disassemble to get back downstairs!! |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 21-Oct-19 16:49 | | Views : 376 | Took longer than I had planned but the wings are nearly complete. As usual I went overboard with the joinery. I think I'll cover with my favorite "Coverlight" polyester tissue. It's similar to "Polyspan" but...lighter. Plus its already sealed and colored. I like the tissue look. Although I had planned to bring this on my Denmark trip (starting this Friday :o ), my digression into "you can never have too many ribs" and"Gussetland" has made this quite impossible. |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 17-Oct-19 16:17 | | Views : 337 | Added a carbon fiber square tube to help transfer some of the torsional load and support the soon to be installed control pin (or tube, haven't decided yet) and as well as beef up the structure a bit for the "not so graceful" end of flights! ;) |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 17-Oct-19 16:11 | | Views : 331 | The "Pivot" tube is 5mm I.D. brass. The joiner is Carbon Fiber. Hard balsa saddles the brass tube and the ends are wrapped with Kevlar tow. Another pin will be added about 2.5 inches behind the pivot for control. |
