LASTWOODSMAN | Easy Built FF-62 Fleet Canuck | Parked | 20-Sep-17 09:09 | | Views : 380 | The Float lies sideways in the jig, with the top "flat" of the float, which is formed by the top flat edge of the formers and the top of the upper center Keel, - that flat is sitting flush to the nearest rail. |
LASTWOODSMAN | Easy Built FF-62 Fleet Canuck | Parked | 20-Sep-17 09:06 | | Views : 391 | I knew I had to make a jig/assembly fixture to securely hold the half-finished float, in order to glue the Float's "other side", half-formers and stringers. This is the little micro-jig setup I made, that uses the same principle as the larger jigs. |
LASTWOODSMAN | Easy Built FF-62 Fleet Canuck | Parked | 20-Sep-17 08:58 | | Views : 356 | BUILDING THE FLOATS - It was difficult cutting and getting the printwood parts right. All of the float formers sat crooked when standing on the float keels, because I cut them out crooked with the exacto knife - I had to sand them all to a right angle perpendicular edge mating surface. And all of my 10 second Cyano Acrylate "CA" glue bottles were either rock hard in the bottle, or had lost all of their potency. Luckily, I had one bottle of CA super glue from Dolarama - but it was 30 second glue, not 10 second glue - I found out the hard way ... |
LASTWOODSMAN | Easy Built FF-62 Fleet Canuck | Parked | 19-Sep-17 07:15 | | Views : 362 | On Saturday October 14, there will be a "MODEL SHOW", open to everyone, inside the Historic Hangar at Windsor Airport, from 10 am to 3pm, open to all categories of models - airplanes, ships, cars, anything. LASTWOODSMAN | Guillows Series 800 - Mosquito | Parked | 17-Sep-17 20:49 | | Views : 645 | Right hand view of Landing Gear and Engines. The talk is now of actually flying the plane, instead of just taxiing it around. This restoration is going on 15 years. |
LASTWOODSMAN | Guillows Series 800 - Mosquito | Parked | 17-Sep-17 20:47 | | Views : 611 | Right Merlin Engine. They found two Merllin engines, still in their crates, unused, in a barn at a farm in Saskatchewan Province, for $10,000 each. |
LASTWOODSMAN | Guillows Series 800 - Mosquito | Parked | 17-Sep-17 20:44 | | Views : 646 | A few shots for Brian - "MOSQUITO" restoration at the Historic Hangar in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Left Merllin engine. |
LASTWOODSMAN | Easy Built FF-62 Fleet Canuck | Parked | 15-Sep-17 21:37 | | Views : 357 | PARTS CUT OUT - I put in a new #11 Exacto blade knife and cut out all of the parts from the "Printwood" balsa sheets (first time). I find that you can even cut against the grain with a sharp blade, a steel ruler, and a "cutting mat". I am still working on the sizing up of all of the notches, and test fitting with a small piece of 1/16" square balsa stringer, to snugly accept the 1/16" square balsa stringers, as close as I can. |
LASTWOODSMAN | Easy Built FF-62 Fleet Canuck | Parked | 15-Sep-17 21:33 | | Views : 492 | FLEET CANUCK PLAN - here is a pic of the plan - it has FLOATS. The plan actually looks very good - downthrust for the noseblock, positive incidence on the wing, slight negative incidence on the stab, but no incidence on the floats as compared to the fuse datum. I have to make a removable nose block as per the supplied extra sheet of instructions, that came with the kit. There is no removable nose block on the original plan. |
LASTWOODSMAN | SIG Customaire # FF-26 | Parked | 15-Sep-17 21:26 | | Views : 1026 | This is the Sig "Customaire" 20" biplane kit # FF-26 $24.50 (no exact scale as it was not a real plane) - but reminiscent of the classic WACO cabin biplanes of the 1930's. |
