The horizontal stabilizer is a multi-piece laminate that will be sanded to shape. Everything else is pretty typical for a balsa plane. |

Believe it or not, this was the first indication for me on the actual size of the model. Up to this point, everything was done on the computer, so I didn't have a good reference of scale in the actual world. The tanks are about 7 1/4" and look like the pins from an old Skittlebowl game. The wood for both the tanks and nose cones is jelutong. |

On this sheet, the balsa is only etched on the surface. If they can't deep etch the wood, I'll switch to plastic for some of the parts. That's what I used to make the engine fins on my Piper. |

Creosotewind | Scratch Built Grumman F9F Panther | Parked | 29-May-09 17:59 | | Views : 1323 | My intent at this point is to only build a half model, to make sure everything fits together. I'll be making adjustments during that build. The first full models will go to Poppy and Ted, or FrwyFlyr, who has been a tremendous help as you'll see in upcoming photos. |

It only works in 2-D. The colors are only used to help me keep track of the various sections: wings, fuselage, cockpit, etc. I think on my next kit, I'll try a 3-D program. That may help with some of the figuring and head scratching I went through this time. |
