I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

Improved version of F7U. Reflexed airoil, larger elevons, dihedral in outer panels. Still not ready for prime time. Further redesign in the works.

This is what the Viggen looks like finished. Spent a fustrating morning at Stonehurst trying to trim it to fly. It's a lot stronger than it looks.

My wife looked at it and said it looks like a cartoon. Since a no-cal IS a cartoon of an airplane I suppose that was a complement.

Since the root chord of the wing is over 13 inches long I had to use a 2 foot square piece of plywood to pin down the wing while shrinking.

The size of the Viggen caused a few problems. Pinning it down to shrink the tissue I had to use the plywood plank I normally use for wings.

This was my back up model for the NoCal contest, a Saab Viggen. I didn't get it finished and the Cutlass flew OK. I finished 2nd by 0.8 seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQn4v3mROw8 Next week I will fly the Viggen.

Wire thrust mounting is adjustable. Offset prop gives required left turn. Probably could get it down to 13 grams with a lighter prop. Flying with an 18" loop of 3/32" rubber.

Stability was astonishing. Needed very little up adjustment of wing tips.

Came out a bit heavy at 16 grams with rubber, but flies slowly because of wing area. Needs marking finished before contest.

The wing is easy to build...covering it, dry, is another matter.

Not the Guillows Cutlass, but mine. I was at the O.F.F.C. (Old Farts Flying Club) meeting last week and was reminded that the contest, at the end of the month, was for no-cal pusher. It seemed that everyone there was practicing with a Hansa Jet from the A. A. Lidberg plans. Some others were talking about building a Shinden or an XP55. (Both plans are available, but I don't have the reference.) At first I wasn't going to participate, my time being what it is, then it occurred to me that an F7U-1 could work very well, and would be mildly disruptive, so I decided to see if I could draw and build one in about 4 hours. It's coming along nicely, squeezed in a few minutes at a time between other tasks, but I missed my O.F.F.C. meeting this morning and not having access to an indoor venue between now and the contest it will be a case of get it trimmed inside my den (13.5 foot ceiling) and go for broke at the contest next week. If it flies well it's another possibility for a kit.
