Creosotewind | Rogers 40mm Bofors AA cannon | Parked | 26-May-10 11:29 | | Views : 733 | Tires were primed, spray painted with olive drab enamel and the tires are black acrylic. Still needs a coat of flat. |
Creosotewind | Rogers 40mm Bofors AA cannon | Parked | 26-May-10 11:27 | | Views : 666 | I was able to make eight useable tires with the new resin/injecting system. After the third good tire, the mold tore, but I was able to tape it shut and kept casting. |
Creosotewind | Rogers 40mm Bofors AA cannon | Parked | 26-May-10 11:25 | | Views : 685 | I found some new resin and, using PFinn and Frwyflyer's suggestions with injecting, rather than pouring the resin, I used this squeeze bottle. Worked well. The tip of the squeeze bottle is on the table. What looks like the tip on the bottle is actually dried resin. It doesn't stick to the bottle so I was able to remove it and reuse the bottle. |
Creosotewind | Rogers 40mm Bofors AA cannon | Parked | 04-May-10 15:23 | | Views : 759 | First attempts, from left to right. The left one was mixed 1/1 per instructions and was too hot. It set up really quick. Pretty amazing to see the stuff change color and cure right before your eyes. |
Creosotewind | Rogers 40mm Bofors AA cannon | Parked | 04-May-10 15:21 | | Views : 758 | First time trying this. I got a really good mold. I used the Alumilite starter kit. About $30, with enough rubber to make one mold, and enough resin to make several small castings. |

Creosotewind | Rogers 40mm Bofors AA cannon | Parked | 12-Apr-10 11:04 | | Views : 737 | Primed and ready for casting. The tire on the right is what came in the kit, my starting point. |
Creosotewind | Rogers 40mm Bofors AA cannon | Parked | 12-Apr-10 11:03 | | Views : 735 | One down, three to go. Actually I bought a resin casting kit. This will be my first attempt at casting. The nuts are from Verlinden. The center nut is an actual nut with a paper cover to overlay the bolt hole. Wait, is that a dirty term? |
Creosotewind | Rogers 40mm Bofors AA cannon | Parked | 12-Apr-10 11:01 | | Views : 690 | One wheel with its grooves. The background is a pattern I made to show the bolt spacing. It took several tries to cut one out that would work on the wheel. Combination of a compas and hand work with an X-Acto blade. The notch is where the valve stem would be. |
Creosotewind | Rogers 40mm Bofors AA cannon | Parked | 12-Apr-10 10:59 | | Views : 734 | Added the sites. Not shown, but the crosshairs are light sewing thread that was run through glue to keep from getting fuzzy. |
Creosotewind | Rogers 40mm Bofors AA cannon | Parked | 16-Mar-10 17:09 | | Views : 689 | I've been watching the BBC series "World At War" on the Military Channel. Except for the fact that MC cuts out about 10 minutes per episode to fit in commercials, it is still the best doc I've seen on WW2. I've seen the Bofors being used by the British, Germans, Russians and the US. This gun was everywhere. |
