pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 23-Oct-19 01:44 | | Views : 498 | Most of my kits ready to ship to Germany in the future via container with my heavy machinery. |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 21-Oct-19 16:58 | | Views : 398 | My new work space in Germany. Up three flights of stairs and a fairly narrow Spiral staircase. I have my original "Holiday" model here as well as others that I posted here at VA so the Holiday will come to Denmark for my vacation. Well traveled model!! That's my 1949 NSU Quick Moped I'm restoring. Just replaced all the seals and bearings in the engine and it's ready to reassemble. Then disassemble to get back downstairs!! |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 21-Oct-19 16:49 | | Views : 376 | Took longer than I had planned but the wings are nearly complete. As usual I went overboard with the joinery. I think I'll cover with my favorite "Coverlight" polyester tissue. It's similar to "Polyspan" but...lighter. Plus its already sealed and colored. I like the tissue look. Although I had planned to bring this on my Denmark trip (starting this Friday :o ), my digression into "you can never have too many ribs" and"Gussetland" has made this quite impossible. |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 17-Oct-19 16:17 | | Views : 337 | Added a carbon fiber square tube to help transfer some of the torsional load and support the soon to be installed control pin (or tube, haven't decided yet) and as well as beef up the structure a bit for the "not so graceful" end of flights! ;) |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 17-Oct-19 16:11 | | Views : 331 | The "Pivot" tube is 5mm I.D. brass. The joiner is Carbon Fiber. Hard balsa saddles the brass tube and the ends are wrapped with Kevlar tow. Another pin will be added about 2.5 inches behind the pivot for control. |

pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 16-Oct-19 03:25 | | Views : 337 | The TE is three 1mm (.040") square basswood I found at a German Crafts store with some .012" thick Carbon strip I already had. |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 16-Oct-19 03:21 | | Views : 328 | Decided to add leading edge sub-ribs instead of sheeting the LE with 1/64" ply. I also decided to add Diagonal cross bracing rearward of the main spar. And again, radiused gusseting. Sometimes I wonder...this is supposed to be a "Quick" build. Sheesh. |

pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 16-Oct-19 03:10 | | Views : 380 | Since the airfoil is not flat bottom, small tabs lift the ribs of the building surface to keep the oriented correctly. These tabs will be removed later. Notched LE and TE really help with this kind of technique. The top spar is not bonded at this time in lieu of adding the vertical grain shear webs. |
