Skyediamonds1985 | Guillows Series 200 - SE5a | Build | 07-Jan-16 20:53 | | Views : 401 | Guys, good afternoon. Just a bit of good news: While pursing through a local fabric store, came across a small package labeled "clasps." They really more closely resemble turnbuckles!! As you can see from the ruler I placed next to them each measures out to about 5/8th". Get this, you can pull out one of the ends to stretch it out to 7/8th" (or about from 15cm to about 23cm). They're most likely too big for the majority of the models by Guillow's, but for those who are scratch-building or constructing larger scales, this could work out. For a package of 8 "turnbuckles" they're retailed at only $2.50 . If you don't have easy access to a local store or through any online services at this price, let me know. |
Skyediamonds1985 | Guillows Series 200 - SE5a | Build | 06-Jan-16 21:42 | | Views : 421 | Another view. I just have to remember that the contrast between the paint and the decal is far greater than that of the film. Oh well, lesson learned. |

Skyediamonds1985 | Guillows Series 200 - SE5a | Build | 06-Jan-16 21:38 | | Views : 412 | Good afternoon guys. While visiting RCGroup website, came across a gentleman who specializes in decals. They're thick enough that they won't easily tear, but with a bit of MicroSet solution, are thin enough to allow the delicate weave pattern of Solartex Film to show through. Check out: visions2001@att.net His name is John Brantley. His listing of decals numbers in the thousands of all types. Just thought I'd pass it on. |
Skyediamonds1985 | Guillows Series 200 - SE5a | Build | 05-Jan-16 22:08 | | Views : 430 | Here's q good view of the size of the control horn with the tiny bushes inside. I know what some of you might be thinking, and I couldn't agree with you more. There are people who enjoy modeling for the pleasure and rewards that comes with it, and then there are guys who well, might be a bit out on the fringes ... |

Skyediamonds1985 | Guillows Series 200 - SE5a | Build | 05-Jan-16 21:56 | | Views : 319 | Well guys, I managed to find itsy bitsy tiny beads to serve as bushings for the control horns of the flying surfaces. In my next picture, you can see the scale of my fingers to the control horn and the "bushes." |

Skyediamonds1985 | Guillows Series 200 - SE5a | Build | 03-Jan-16 18:03 | | Views : 373 | Here's the completed pulley assy for the left lower wing. The small "kinks" on the rigging lines will be hidden outside the boundaries of the triangular-shaped inspection window. Just hoping that all this detail stuff will even be noticed when peeking through the small window. We'll see. That's it for now. |
Skyediamonds1985 | Guillows Series 200 - SE5a | Build | 03-Jan-16 17:27 | | Views : 383 | If you zoom up and look closely, you can see the small brass ringlet just near the tip of the needle, that I'm trying to replicate as bushing for the control horns and rigging. Unless I hear any suggestions, I think I'll have to accept reality of scale and take a more simplistic route. Any ideas? |
Skyediamonds1985 | Guillows Series 200 - SE5a | Build | 03-Jan-16 17:25 | | Views : 416 | I'm also attempting to replicate the small control horns whose shape is unique to the S.E. 5. I'm using plastic cut from a discarded credit card. I'd like to use the small ringlets of .031" in dia (.8mm) as bushings for the rigging, but its getting awfully small and difficult to see, let alone trying to work with it. I'll upload another picture showing my hand for comparison. |
