John M Oshust | 21-Sep-08 10:52 | The spirit of Lowell Bayles visits a model of the plane in which he lost his life. |
John M Oshust | 14-Apr-17 22:06 | Heywoood. Lowell Bayles likes your build! |
heywooood | 15-Apr-17 11:55 | The men behind these machines were true pioneers. They risked everything - raw courage. Designers, builders, flyers...heroes |
John M Oshust | 26-Jul-18 17:38 | Heywood, Lowell Bayles also thanks you. He should have checked the fuel cap! |
heywooood | 26-Jul-18 19:33 | I agree that it was likely the fuel cap that caused the crash..and I omitted the fuel cap from my model for that reason. I think Lowell was likely intent on the airspeed gauge when the cap struck the canopy causing a flinch on the control stick or sudden rudder movement that was too much for the air frame..probably the stick as the aileron departed, then the right wing twisted and fractured as the Z rotated right and struck the ground. |
