Beautifully done! Super clean!

My hometown of Rochelle, Illinois has been in the news lately with an EF-4 category tornado; over 30 homes destroyed. Nearby town was completely wiped out. I had no damage. Been out helping with the clean-up.

Dale, The power of Mother Nature is endless. Especially when her wrath destroys what we call home. I am very happy that you and yours have dodged this meteorological bullet and empathize with your neighbors which have not!

Dale sad to hear about the damage. I have had family living in Rochelle in the past (and maybe some still there) and visited often. I'm a former resident of Rockford.

dale how did you come about your spinner? did you make it out of balsa or did you use it from a plastic one? thank you brian.
Dale141612-Dec-15 15:17
Thanks Brian for your interest in my Dumas Albatros. After trying softer materials, I ended up using pine. Cut out a plug; roughly shaped it on disk sander; centered a screw in plug; chucked in drill press, and finished shaping with wood rasp, file, and sandpaper. Cut slot for prop with Dremel tool.

Have not posted any new builds on V.A. since I gave up the model building due to health reasons. I miss it !

it's a beautiful build. i'm building one now, did some of the albatros's have spinners and some not? wishing you improved health. happy holidays!

Early models did, but pilots often removed the spinner, since it was prone to falling off in flight. Later models introduced a new rounded nose that eliminated the spinner.

At my daughter's place over T-giving (St. Charles): I can still see the damage done by the storm when driving down from Rockford to Hwy 64.

Dale, hope the health issues will clear so you can come back to doing something you love.
