| Thanks, Don. My interest in building this plane is strictly for the paint job and wheels. There are many folks who think a Beaver just isn't a Beaver without floats. I am not one of those. This is a USAF DHC U-6A. |

| Thanks for the kind words:-) Don, its "U" designation stands for utility so I guess it was used for whatever it was needed for. There are strap on skis in the reference photo and that plus the color suggest it was a northern aircraft. |

| A friend who was involved with the construction of LS 85, the site that was over run in Laos in 1968, said he was shot at while flying in a U-6A to the site. That means that they were used in much the same way as the Pilatus Porter and probably because of their STOL abilities. |

| Thank you, Howard. :-) You did an incredible job of designing it. The windshield fit nearly perfectly, and would have but for me, and those paper pieces around the landing gear struts were a breeze. A real fun build!! |

| Don, the Air Force use to have amphibians. They flew PBY Catalinas during WW2 and afterwards, primarily for air/sea rescues. During the Korean War they also had some boats, similar to PT boats for the same reason. |

| Thank you. If it will make you feel better, there actually is an Air Force version on floats! :-) Howard has commented, in the Guillows forum, that the kit was designed with floats as an option because so many people think of it that way. I've never seen one in person but I have seen the image of this version since I was a teen ager, albeit not in color, and that Berkeley kit still comes up on ebay sometimes. At about $250!!! |
