| The geometry (monkey Motion) was calculated by the Helicopter guys (which I am definitely not!) and I began to CAD up all the parts, then fabricate all the parts (minus the gears and motor), assemble, and test this thing. It fly successfully in the simulated Mars atmosphere in JPL's HUGE vacuum chamber the test all the Earth orbit satellites in. Just nine little "Hops" but it actually did better that the 4 channel vehicle. Here's a JPL video. | this was/is 17in.The blades are of off "Something Else" that I can't talk about. On this scale version we had to spin it up to 6700 rpm. We have a 24" cube vacuum chamber that we tested it in. Thant's a .0625" carbon rod supporting the top rotor. Needless to say, balancing the rotors was very important. Pretty scary because at every 1700 rpm or so the thing would start a harmonic vibration and would shake quite violently. We ended up just "punching through" that rpm too keep the vibration time short. |

| pfinn, very impressive work. I can fully appreciate your efforts. I used to fly a Piper Cherokee (Dakota) and that particular model's handbook called for me to avoid specific rpms to avoid harmonic vibrations. Anything below or above it was fine. I take it you're an engineer? Rayl, you're one heck of an intelligent human being & great modeler. You're tackling a rare and difficult modeling project on the Loening with very impressive results, not to mention there are no kits of this type. |

| Must be nice to build models at work. A rarity nowadays. I was lucky to attend EAA convention many years ago and took several photos of the B-2. Let me know if you're interested. |

| Skyediamonds, I actually went through Art school and received a BS in Industrial Design. I did grow up working at my Father's aerospace machine shop for about 25yrs. I'm pretty awful at Mathematics so I'm probably not one of "Them" either Rayl! But after working my whole life with Engineers (not a bad thing, mind you) Common Sense is also just as valuable if not more in my point of view.
Sorry, digressing again ;o). Thanks for the offer on the B2 pics, but I seeem to have quite a few myself! Thanks!
