julinick | 20-Mar-16 11:04 | Looking very sharp!!!! |
Skyediamonds1985 | 20-Mar-16 19:08 | Really impressed by both the sharp lines between the colors and the distinct impression of the rear canopy from the fuselage spine. No signs of decal carrier films that are so prevalent on Guillow's kits. Clean, sharp, neat. Really great job DD. |
ElbertC | 21-Mar-16 06:19 | David, your work always keeps me on the straight and narrow of model building. Some times I think, "I'm just doing this for fun, why take the time?" But I watch you and I see why I do it. Thanks. Very GOOD Job! |
David Duckett | 21-Mar-16 06:44 | Thanks to all! "Decal carrier film" is a new term to me although I understand what you mean. Many plastic model builders expect the same precision decals in a plastic kit to be in a Guillows, or similar, kit. Doesn't happen! Won't happen!! The excess film around a Guillows decal can be carefully trimmed away before applying. The decal sheets for Diels kits and the stickers in Dumas kits are printed on one sheet of film and each piece must be cut from it separately. The only Guillows decal here is the star and bars national insignia, the others are from the "decal box". Spraying decals with either gloss or matte spray will blend in the outer edges of a decal making it look more like it was painted on. I do not like the feel of matte spray, sorta like sand to the touch, and I do not usually use gloss simply because most planes aren't that shiny so I wind up leaving the decals alone. Elbert, yeah it's for fun but it's much more rewarding to know you did it as well as you could. I'm completely oblivious to time when building or painting. The only important thing is that it looks good when done. |
Creosotewind | 21-Mar-16 14:16 | To my way of thinking, if you have to worry about how much time it took to complete, it is a job. Otherwise, it is a hobby. |
Creosotewind | 21-Mar-16 14:18 | And looking great David. |
