edtherenderman | 07-Jul-20 08:01 | Nice! I was on the Sacramento River last week (took six days off - first vacation since January!)and caught two okay sized big mouth and one 15" small mouth on the fly! We were targeting Strippers, but the winds were so high (10 - 30 MPH), that we couldn't get to our regular spots. More fishing than catching, but still nice to get out of the house and away from work. |

BriandKilby | 07-Jul-20 11:42 | what's your go to fly for bass? |
edtherenderman | 07-Jul-20 17:23 | My first time bass fishing on the fly, but in the Sacto river, East Bay and delta, they hit a chartreuse & white Clouser minnow with yellow dumbbell eyes. Very easy pattern to tie. Key is to use a medium sink line to get the fly down. I was fishing with a 9ft 7wt, but most use 8wt to handle the wind, heavy fly and potentially big fish. Strippers have to be at least 18" to keep and can get much bigger than that! |
BriandKilby | 07-Jul-20 18:23 | I tie my own flies, so I got some clousers but haven't been bass fishing, much, yet. it's hard to fly fish in a kayak. I have caught trout with wooley buggers, though. |
