Your work is impressive. Especially this technique of balsa/silkspan. Have you considered layering the silk to replicate the panel lines? A very light wash at the end would make them stand out nicely. By the way, up here in Phoenix it is hotter than...well, it is pretty dang hot. Even for Phoenix.

Many thanks. I've heard of that technique but I'm afraid that would require a lot more work than I care to put into it. It's been abnormally hot down here, as well. You should see my electric bill!!

At least you are a lot closer to El Charro Cafe in Tucson.

Beautiful David. How would you compare the styrene pieces from the Today's Hobbies kit to Guillows pieces in regards to fit and consistent thickness? Because they are vacuum formed, the Guillows at times seem really thin from stretching at the point of cut off, causing weakened pieces and are sometimes a PIA to sand and shape.

This is beautiful and smooth (one of many adjectives that really get a workout whenever your work is described!!!) I think David's idea of fillng some small vacuumformed parts with casting resin is brilliant!!! (ref. to DD's B-29 landing gear parts)

The material is thicker and easier to work with and the pieces fit really well. There are also a lot fewer plastic pieces involved. The plastic in all of these has been consistent in thickness, as has the quality of the wood and the die cut pieces generally just fall out. I'm amazed that the kits are so inexpensive. They are probably not for the faint hearted but I really like them.

Actually the B 29 pieces are filled with lightweight filler. The landing gear pieces on the P 39 and the C 47 are made using casting resin. But...it was Matt Olson's idea which I borrowed, I didn't even know what it was.
