deckape | 27-Apr-11 15:24 | 1957 Sterling Scout in its primitive modeling in 1957 covered in silk she is getting old like me we are both antiques |
lukebozek1 | 27-Apr-11 15:50 | If you are in that good shape you have it made! I remember that real silk was like $6.00 a square yard about that time. You were Mr. Money back then. I also remember that it took less dope to finish the silk off than the silkspan. Pretty plane! |
deckape | 27-Apr-11 16:11 | thanks Luke back in those days silk was expensive for my dope I got off cheap i went to the airport and washed airplanes for my modeling supplies back then I got gallens of butyate dope.I ssoaked my silk in hot water and doped it down wet lete dry and sanded with wet sand paper, and applied another coat of nitraite dope on top of the butyate dope, the original wheels that were on the ppane came from ac,e at of new york they had spokes on them they cost %5.00 I got them for my 17th year birthday I have a Nieuport 28 Sterling kit in the same series as this one. I got it on my paper route i paid $9.95 for it and the SE5 too. they used the old .19 McCoy these engines didn,t last long in those days they burned up you had to by another they cost $5.00 back then then I went to a Fox.35 Mt dad and i every sunday burned circles together. If I were to try this agin I would get vergo and crash and burn. thanks Luke |
