poppy | 04-Jun-07 21:06 | Scratch build using Guillow's plan. |
poppy | 24-Jun-07 12:15 | First step;Ribs redrawn and cut to replicate laminar flow airfoil top and bottom. Build wing halves using basic construction. Ribs should be 1/32 below top of leading edge. End tip at next to last rib. Sand trailing edge to compensate for cover. Leading edge break redone to P-51D. Plans show P-51B. Starting with bottom of wing, trim 1/32 balsa sheet to inside leading edge and butt to same using slow dry thick CA, zap when satisfied with fit. Cover each half B4 joining by carefully bending cover and gluing at 1/4 intervals. Cover top the same. Trim trailing edge. Fit block balsa to tips and sand to shape. Join halves to proper dihedral then sand leading edge to shape. Fill grain and any cracks with balsa filler until satisfied with finish. 1/32 sheet balsa should be joined on a flat surface to obtain proper width, and joint sanded smooth. Careful on sanding sheet, it's already thin. |
