sweendog | 23-Mar-07 16:54 | Question: Not necessarily on this model, but when you add the extra stringers, do you notch the ribs or just cut the stringers to fit in between. Your models come out so good. I'd like to try it on my next project. Thanks! |
David Duckett | 23-Mar-07 18:13 | On this one the stringers just sit on the formers so adding all the extra wood is easy. Generally I'll notch the second set of stringers and add scrap balsa between the formers instead of trying to cut any more notches. You can do it either way, just use filler to make it all smooth where the gaps are. |
moostang51 | 23-Mar-07 18:36 | The addition of double stringers is the best idea I have found on any model building website. The final results after filling, shaping and sanding make covering much easier. It is some work, but if you want a stronger frame and more realistic contour to your surfaces, follow David's technique. I'm hooked and would not build a plane any other way. |
sweendog | 23-Mar-07 18:45 | Thank you for the info! My next build is going to be the Catalina PBY. Going to try the extra stringers and going to attempt to cover with wet silk span for the first time. I've been studying your photos. Lots of great tips. I appreciate it. TS> |
