David Duckett | 17-Jun-08 09:59 | Yes, same technique, The kit supplied block was much too hard so I used a softer wood which came from a kit from the 40's. I have several chunks of it. |
simpleflyer | 18-Jun-08 15:05 | Thanks for the reply, David. If I remember correctly, printwood kits with all the cutting involved are not exactly a favorite of yours. Has this kit changed your impression of this type of kit? BTW, what you are doing with this kit looks great. I am looking forward to seeing the completed model. |

David Duckett | 18-Jun-08 18:42 | As a kid I dreaded cutting out all the pieces and thinking about it now it was probably because all I had was a single-edge razor blade. Now all I use is a x-acto and lots of sharp blades. My 3 West Wings planes were all printwood and I found that accurately cutting out the pieces was as much a part of the build as anything else and I actually look forward to it. I DO NOT like the way they crowd all the pieces so closely together. Of course, when one's building the way I do, a broken piece is no big deal. I DO very much like the fit of the pieces since they are more accurate than die-cut, usually. Printwood would not stop me from building a kit. |
