After consuming many bottles of screw-top vine with the neighbors, discussing the intrinsic holistic values of "Fifty Shades of Gray" we got down to the serious business fo mocking up my new J2F Duck project. I need to thank all of my neighbors for posing. Now I just need to lift the loft lines and scale it down to 1/16 scale.

Remarkable. What, pray tell, is the function of the two gents sitting in the bilge?

Great picture. Is there a story with it?

Good Lord! The original mock up of the J2F! Its a wonder the photo survives. The intrinsic values of "Fifty Shades of Gray"? At my age that's a discussion of hair color.

To answer John O: Ballast!

John, the Duck was one of the first SAR capable A/C and this shot is showing where the soggy guys would get stored on the way back. Access to the bilges was through the gunner's cockpit via a fold-up seat and fold-away ladder. If you will notice, in my original post, they had nice windows on either side to rubberneck while on the way back. The Duck was also capable of Carrier operations, although with a main gear tread of under 8ft, catching the wire had to be close to the ultimate thrill. [Seawings.co.uk] has some good walk-around information.

James: Would you please enter "Grumman J2F-4" into the Scratch built area. Thanks a bunch. (And Thanks for maintaining one of the friendliest site on the Web!)
