Getting along with this fragile aircraft build Brian - good work!

thanks bob!

question about ez-dope. does ez-dope apply better than regular dope? does it have to be ventilated as much as regular dope? thanks, brian.

It's like white glue almost. No smell. Relatively non toxic (don't drink it!), drys very quickly. I used Nitrate dope for years. Wish I had the brain cells back that I killed using it!

Oh, and it is hot fuel proof, so you can use it on gas planes if you are into flying.

thanks ed, i have been using butyrate dope. ez-dope sounds like a good alternative.

I think it's worth a try. It is different, and takes some getting used to the technique, but I'm happy with it. The hardest part is the initial sticking of the tissue to the wood. With other solvent based dopes, I used to put a layer on the wood and let it dry, then when sticking the tissue, put dope on top of the tissue, letting it soak through and melt the dope below it. Eze Dope doesn't work that way. There are no solvents. I've heard some people use glue sticks to start with. I just put the tissue on the plane and wet just where it sits against the wood and hold it until it sets. A hair dryer helps too because the stuff drys pretty quickly.

sounds good!

Ed, so you are using the tissue dry? Do you shrink it with water later or does the EZ dope do that?
edtherenderman06-May-21 15:01
I put the tissue on damp so that it it shrinks as the dope is drying. That makes it drum tight from the beginning. It will wrinkle again after apply more coats of dope, but eventually, the dope will fill the weave it it pretty much stops shrinking.
