I'll be making some modifications to this kit going forward, including around the nose and power plant...not sure how they came up with this configuration for the plastic nose/crankcase but We'll make do. Meantime - look at the Oreo's I made lol.

Heywoood, check out my previous posts on this PT-17. I scratched out the radial engine but only the cylinders. I kept the original plastic crankcase. The infilling looks great! You're going a fantastic job! It looks as though those two colored pictures are of two separate aircraft, judging from the tail #'s and all. I still have all my original drawings of the instruments which I used to take photos and reduce them to scale. If you're interested, let me know.

I appreciate the offer - thank you...at this point I am still working out the front end and will likely 'go skinny' on the panel and 'pits as a result of whatever happens up front. The other Stearmans I built were the Herr Eng. and the Sterling crop duster. Next time I will either make the part with balsa or slice off the ridiculous nipple on this thing and just use the big ring that goes to the fuselage #1 former- live and learn

I might just do that here...I've got the cylinders - all I need to do is carve a crankcase out of balsa block and I can make a better Continental block than this in my sleep probably. I just dont know if I want to commit the time to do it.

I modded the Continental radial on my Stearman build as well. Pics are in my hangar. Also there are extensive cockpit and instrument panel pics if you should decide to detail your cockpits.

You guys are the best. I’m just going to set and think on what I’m going to do at this point. I have the images of everyones builds here and like all the various approaches taken so far. I just have to sort out what I’m going to do. I definitely appreciate the offers of reference materials and suggestions!
