Creosotewind | 04-May-10 15:23 | First attempts, from left to right. The left one was mixed 1/1 per instructions and was too hot. It set up really quick. Pretty amazing to see the stuff change color and cure right before your eyes. |
Creosotewind | 04-May-10 15:27 | Talking with FrwyFlyer, he suggested changing the mix. The middle one is about 1 part resin and 1/2 catalyst. Better, but the detail of the hub is too soft. For the last one, the mix was just right (this is starting to sound like Goldilocks). Except I didn't have enough. For the last one, I also poured directly into the hub detail, and then closed up the mold and finished the pour. The detail is better, now I just need to watch my amounts.
These remind me of those monster movies where the creature is interrupted in mid-transformation. (Start the Theremin music now). |
pfinn | 04-May-10 16:28 | Try putting the resin in the refrigerator. Might buy you that little bit of time you need. You may want to disguise it though! Try using a syringe to inject the resin. The LHC have thore "Mono-ject" or similar ones that you can cut some of the tip off. You can re-use them. Leave about 1/8" of resin in the syringe after you've shot your mold, let it go off and harden. It nearly always comes out with the plunger. Peel it off the plunger. Or blow it out with compressed air. Be careful were you're aiming! |
frwyflyer | 04-May-10 16:55 | It looks like your getting close. It always takes a little bit to zero in. |
Creosotewind | 05-May-10 05:45 | Thanks Phil, thanks Ted. I will try the syringe method. |
