hjlittman | 24-Jul-07 00:18 | Markings, including the wheels, were inkjet printed on white Japanese tissue and attached with glue stick. Control surface outlines done with gel pen. |
jgood | 24-Jul-07 07:32 | Great (and unusual) looking Spit. Has this flown? |
hjlittman | 24-Jul-07 11:07 | Yes, it does fly. After sorting out all the usual trimming problems of a small, heavy (30 grams) model with an elliptical wing it does in the mid 30 second range with four strands of 1/8 inch F.A.I tan rubber. Performance has improved going from the Peck prop shown to an Ikara prop. |
jgood | 24-Jul-07 18:04 | Very cool, Howard. I really want to try a free flight aircraft, but I don't know where I'd fly it. My field borders Biscayne Bay, and I don't want to loose it in there! How large is the place you fly? |
hjlittman | 25-Jul-07 00:00 | I fly at the "Grassy Knoll" above Lake Balboa in the Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys. It's about a quarter mile by 800 feet. We call it the 'Minute Field' since if your model flys over a minute might loose it. Black Sheep contest rules include, "timing stops if the model leaves the field'. |
jgood | 25-Jul-07 07:07 | Is that here, Howard? Looks a similar size to my park, but you have more grass, and a smaller road to the North. |
hjlittman | 25-Jul-07 10:54 | Jim, excellent satellite work. Are you ex-CIA? ;-) Bound by the interstate and the bay, your site looks a little more challenging. |
