jgood | 17-Jun-07 16:46 | CD-ROM motor now mounted, upper and lower wing leading edges sanded. AUW currently coming out as 4.4oz. Seems to balance with the battery behind the firewall, and the servos in the cockpit. |

Think I might be looking elsewhere though, progress hasn't been swift around here, and I'm sure I saw a glimpse of a black wet suit on the balcony last night. |

John, yes, you can take the motor out of an old CD-ROM, rewire it with thicker gauge wire, and use it. Very quiet (if used direct drive), and very efficient. http://www.gobrushless.com |

jgood | 21-Jun-07 20:44 | Mike, I'm going to try a 4.1g servo in the top wing, and sullivan cable, ala your Hellcat. I didn't want to go for full-length ailerons, and my torque rod thing didn't work. I think the guage of wire I used was too small, and it had too much slop in the action. |
mikemolt | 21-Jun-07 22:11 | I think sullivan cable will work just fine too actually... I'm made a discovery while using Sullivan cable not long ago actually, something I think would help a lot of folks using it. Nothing earth shattering, but it sure helps when you have too much friction between the cable and outter tube of Sullivan cables due to a lot of bends or sharp bends. If it seems the servo is working too hard or binding, and that the ailerons aren't going back to center b/c of too much friction, just unravel one of the smaller wires that make up the cable. It might take a few wires to get the smooth action you're after, but it sure helps.

I guess I will have to do a lot of testing for I get FAA approval. :) John, I don't know what Mike said either, although he designs incredible flying models, I'm not sure he knows what everything he says means... |

I removed two or three on my Hellcat and haven't noticed anything too bad...well, there was that time it did like 16 rolls without me trying to, but I just figured it to be a radio glitch. ;-) |
