simpleflyer | 10-Oct-08 00:15 | Took the Cub out for some flying. We were getting flights of over a minute. |
simpleflyer | 10-Oct-08 00:34 | Not as rubber powered free flight, but using an old technique from the 1940s, swing control.
We first saw the technique described on the old Comet model plans of the 1950s. We flew a couple of our first Comet models and a few of our first Guillows models in this manner.
Later, we found an MAN article (July 1944) by F. L. Hendren describing an improved version of swing control shown in the pic.
Balance the model nose heavy with clay. Securely attach a line to the wingtip and run it thru a wire loop at the end of the swing pole. Then swing and fly, feeding out line as necessary. Our swing pole is the smaller piece of a 2-piece cane pole from Wal-Mart. The line is the bobbin of controline from a Guillows kit. |
