hjlittman | 11-Jan-08 00:58 | The 500 series Bf-109 has all the same problems. The shape of the stab is wrong also and it is below scale area, a real problem if you intended to fly it. The box art shows an E but the plans and plastics are a Jumo engined version, B through D. Some of the D's had ejector exhaust stacks line the later models, the earlier ones had flush exhausts or short, tubular stacks. The canopy supplied in the kit would only be for a B through E-3. Starting with the E-4 they used a flat topped canopy. The overly long fuselage with a short nose gives the model, built out-of-the-box, a soft, but lean look, not the menace of a 109 on the gear. Oddly enough, for a Guillow kit, the decals are accurate for a Battle of Britian Bf-109E. I am also building one of these at the moment, as a Bf-109E-3 with Swiss markings. |
