David Duckett | 18-Mar-18 07:53 | Gesso, as in Jesse, is made to prepare nearly any porous surface for painting. It is used primarily to prime raw, or unprimed, canvas. The combination of these two will produce a finish smmoth as glass and with all the holes filled. It also makes the wood harder. Gesso is used directly from the bottle and produces a flat white which covers quite well. |

Welp I’m off to the local art supply, thank you Mr. Duckett! |
heywooood | 18-Mar-18 08:20 | Do you sand the Gesso with a fine grade paper or is it meant to use without sanding.. |
David Duckett | 18-Mar-18 08:34 | For canvas it's left alone. For balsa lightly sand after letting it dry, 24 hours recommended, and then give it a coat of filler, repeat and then sand lightly with fine grade paper. You only need light applications of filler. Gesso dries quickly to the touch but sands better if allowed to dry thoroughly. |

heywooood | 18-Mar-18 11:32 | Thanks for the info, Dave - I can't wait to try it out. |
David Duckett | 18-Mar-18 12:29 | No bad odors, at all. |
julinick | 19-Mar-18 15:48 | I actually covered the B-29 and the F-14 with Gesso. It worked very well indeed!! |
