| They just don't make kits like this anymore. Probably because balsa and labor just too costly now. Way back "when", some of the large 62" span r/c models like the P-51 and P-47 had pre-carved and hollowed out fuselage and cost much less than the kits today. Ah, inflation. |

| Hardly scratch, this is a Berkeley kit dated 1952 (I was 11) and it appears the original price may have been $8. I paid $50 for it. |

| Actually the balsa is pretty good. I'm using new wood for sheeting the wing but that's because the kit wood is 1/20" and does not cover the entire surface. Those pre-shaped blocks are very good wood and will easily hold up to the sanding and filling to come. |

| Berkeley kits were very well done and very complete. I have a Berkeley Privateer "15" kit on my shelf waiting for my retirement. If you are too young to have seen one, it is a very sleek looking R/C amphibian. I'll have to wait have time to re-arrange my garage because, right now, I don't have any place to put a model with a 60 inch wingspan. |
