Neither did I. I looked at many but never saw this before! As has happened in the past, good references appear after the deed is done...ho humm! Is this a model?

No Sir. It is the BE2e at Duxford. I just happened upon the photo today while whiling away a cold dreary afternoon.

The BE 12 series had a faulty interruptor cam connecting the Vickers to the engine. The cam only functioned at full throttle. When fired at slower speeds the gun would hit the airscrew. To eliminate the problem, the airscrew had deflection plates installed on the blades, permitting bullets to ricochet off the prop at slower speeds. Fortunately Ogre is equipped with the improved gear, really a cam, so the airscrew does not need the amour protection!
