What the heck happened! painted the wings at the same time within seconds of each other. Dried at the same time in the same place, why would it do that to one wing and nowhere else? For that matter, I've painted blue all over the thing and none of this happened... white paint is krylon, navy is rustoleum. enamels and lacquers? I have no idea. Very disgusted, I'll try to finish it, but I almost threw the whole thing away. Just don't want it to happen again on future projects.

Wow! Never seen that before! it almost looks like something got on the base color before the blue was applied. Was the white base enamel or lacquer?

Strange. I hope you can fix it. Think you have the skills.

After further research - Base white is acrylic, blue is enamel – lacquer probably thinned with mineral spirits. Apparently you can spray as long as the acrylic is fully cured and you don’t go too thick on the enamel. I’m guessing on the one wing, I just went too heavy and it ate away at the acrylic. Lesson learned… I guess I’ve just been lucky up to this point. I’ve already ripped the covering off and will re-do this weekend --- with fingers crossed :)

Generally speaking, it is not a good idea to mix types of paint on a model. For spray applications I much prefer lacquer to enamel. Regardless of the paint used you can eliminate, or drastically reduce, the bleeding of paint by simply sealing the edge of the masking tape. I use the rounded end of a paint brush to go along the edge of the tape, forcing it closer to the surface before painting.

Thank you for the tip David, I'll definitely take any and all advice I can.

Yes sir Brian, You have a gift card headed your way too. I appreciated it very much! I want to get a few under my belt before attempting, but I cant wait to start on it. It's one of my favorites along with the Bearcat. About the best tech and performance before the jet age took over.

thanks cliff! they crammed all that technology into right after the war?
