SteveM | 04-Apr-09 19:12 | No way I can fly this bird and shoot pictures, I had to set my camera to automatically take pictures at intervals. |
SteveM | 04-Apr-09 19:13 | On a 3S pack performance was excellent and it took off like a rocket, with a 2S pack it took full throttle to keep airborne. The 350 mAh pack keeps me to about 4-5 minute flights so I either need to weigh it down with a larger battery and/or install a battery hatch to make changing the battery less arduous. The aileron controls were a little sloppy due the cable that connects them having a little slop, which made smooth flying a challenge as I was always overshooting my turns and roll corrections. There was also a tail wag at times that may be caused by too small a rudder and/or vertical stabilizer. But since the rudder linkage is starting to slip it is possible that the rudder is just flapping in the breeze so I'll fix the linkage before I start adding wood to the tail. Overall it was surprisingly easy to fly, but required lots of speed and landings must be done at about 1/2 throttle with a good bit of speed. My last landing was the worst and I busted up the nose again so some repairs are in order. |
FLYBOYZ | 04-Apr-09 20:04 | BEAUTIFUL!I Had a GWS kit doing the same thing!I slow poked in one time becuase of head wind and cashed it.It was due to weak push rod to stabilizer. It was letting to control surface move while landing.Plus the mustange has a short tail movement making it very quick in the up and down movement. Now that you know it flies maybe you can take some throw out until you get use to it flight charteristics! If you using Niacads battery think about polymers there much ligther and give you more milamps and flying time.I gone total polymer on every thing.I use 1800mah 3cell LI-PO.This would be to much for that plane in weight. They have smaller LI-PO packs. This has really gotting my intrest. |
SteveM | 04-Apr-09 20:34 | Landing was painful considering the lack of rudder control combined with sloppy ailerons.
I used a 3S 350 mAh and 2S 640 mAh, both LiPo. I need 3S but would like longer flight times so I am looking at a 480 or 730 mAh TP Prolite battery. To help offset the heavier battery I can save 5g by switching from an APC electric to slow-flier prop and 4g by switching from a TB-9 to TB-6 ESC, but first I need to check to make sure I won't exceed the limits of either. |

There's a 500mAH 3s that is pretty popular, hard to beat that price as well. |
