David Duckett | 24-Jan-15 08:09 | Maybe this will help with your color in painting the beast. |
lukebozek1 | 24-Jan-15 08:25 | Just read an article on the Convair B-36. Great range, engines tended to overheat and a huge payload. Some had 4 jet engines for an extra push. Not many left. |
David Duckett | 24-Jan-15 08:29 | This one has four jet engines, the red things to the right of the U.S.. There used to be a lady on here who had worked on these. "Six turning, four burning", she said.:-) |
Dale1416 | 24-Jan-15 09:34 | Saw one of these great 230 feet wingspan birds last Fall in the National Air Force Museum, Dayton, Ohio. |
Don C | 24-Jan-15 11:53 | Hard to believe the size of this thing. Saw one fly over me once back in the 50's. Only other time I was just awestruck by pure size was about 1970 at Fort Hood when a C5-A flew over on takeoff. Good pic. |
David Duckett | 24-Jan-15 18:55 | Thanks, Don. These days with A380s many more people are becoming aware of just how large a plane can be. On a base, the flightline still pretty much comes to a stop when a C-5 takes off. |
